Introduction to main propulsion system.

--

Using propulsion forces, ships can manoeuvre in the water. Initially while there were limited number of ship propulsion systems, in the present era there are several innovative ones with which a vessel can be fitted with. Today ship propulsion system has to be efficient, safe, environmentally friendly and economical.

Let’s go into details.

Companents of propulsion system

Main propulsion system consists of 5 parts:

1. Main Engine: It is converting thermal energy to mechanical forces after produce thermal power.

2. Flexible Coupling: It used for transmit torque from one shaft to another. It helps prevent vibration.

3. Shaft: Transfers mechanical power to turn the propeller.

4. Stern Tube: Prevents water from entering the ship when the propeller rotates.

5. Propeller: It converts mechanical energy to create water flow.
